Laying down interlock tiles (a.k.a brick paving) is a long and tedious process, or should we say "was" a long and tedious process?! Dutch company Vanku BV has released the Tiger-Stone – a six meter wide paving machine that can finish medium-to-large paved areas in hours. The end result is that stones are immediately locked tightly together, all that's left is the grouting phase. The Tiger-Stone can produce up to 300 square meters of paved area a day, and is an easily operated machine that can offer work to partially disabled employees once again. The machine requires at least 2-3 works to "feed" the bricks into the opening, but the physical demand on the employees is much less than before. Custom colours and patterns can be created (a mixture of two patterns in one road/walk area is very expensive and labour intensive, but it's all the same to the Tiger-Stone. At the Construction Users Roundtable CURT meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, the Tiger-Stone was chosen as one of four winners from 697 worldwide nominations.
