Today we announced the steps Dell is taking to enable the ARM server ecosystem, including that we’ve begun shipping Dell “Copper” ARM servers as part of a Dell seed program. Dell is a recognized industry leader in innovation for the server market: we began testing ARM server technology internally in 2010, and built servers so we could accurately understand the potential advantages.
The ARM server ecosystem is still immature, with a limited software ecosystem and (until now) no ARM-based servers from a tier one OEM. Plus, ARM is currently 32-bit technology, which means current 64-bit code would have to be modified to run on 32-bit, and likely be modified again when 64-bit comes out in the next year or two. So customers have told us they don’t plan to put ARM servers into a production environment, but instead want servers to test and validate in their labs.
To support our customers and enable the ARM ecosystem, we’re taking the following action:
We believe ARM-processor-based infrastructures demonstrate promise for Web front-end and Hadoop environments, where advantages in performance per dollar and performance per watt are critical. And we designed the server specifically for where the market is today, for developers and customers to create code and test performance.
In Data Center Solutions (DCS), we understand that supporting customers and the open source development community will help us all to understand where useful technology can be placed. And the benefits of developer testing and experimentation will extend to the entire server market.
Here's a video where I explain Dell "Copper" ARM servers a bit more:

After 11 years in the making and more setbacks than we care to count, Blizzard has finally unleashed a third installment to its cult classic dungeon crawler. Having waited over a decade, the arrival of Diablo III was a bittersweet moment for eager fans. In what must've felt like a cruel joke, missteps in Blizzard's execution prevented many users from accessing content throughout last Tuesday.
Diablo III requires a constant connection to Battle.net and its servers were simply overwhelmed. That isn't entirely shocking when you consider the fact that over two million copies were pre-ordered. Launch day hiccups are almost inevitable when you have that many gamers storming your gates. Fortunately, Blizzard implemented various tweaks and its servers are running smoothly as of late Wednesday.
Nonetheless, the blunder has intensified debates about always-online schemes. Many users have expressed their disapproval with scathing reviews across the Web (3.7 out of 10 on Metacritic). Regardless of whether that's fair, we imagine (or at least hope) the controversy will encourage developers to be more careful about mandatory connections -- a discussion that is well beyond the scope of this article.
While we disagree with making single player components online-only, there isn't much mere mortals like us can do about it. What we can do, however, is beat the hell out of Diablo III with today's finest hardware. Blizzard has somewhat of a reputation for making highly scalable titles that run on virtually any gaming rigs, so that's largely what we expect from the developer's latest offering...
We tested 26 graphics card configurations from AMD and Nvidia, which are installed alongside an Intel Core i7-3960X to remove any CPU bottlenecks. The latest official drivers were used for every card.

We used Fraps to measure frame rates during a minute of gameplay from Diablo III's first act. We tested the game on maximum quality at three common desktop resolutions: 1680x1050, 1920x1200 and 2560x1600.
Brutal: Rudy Eugene, 31, pictured in an old police mugshot, was shot dead by police in Miami, Florida yesterday following the horrific attack where he ripped pieces of flesh from his victim's face
This is the first look at the naked homeless man who ate another man's face while high on a new potent form of LSD.
Rudy Eugene, 31, pictured in an old police mugshot was shot dead in Miami, Florida yesterday following the horrific attack where he ripped pieces of flesh from his victim.
His victim, another naked homeless man, was in a serious condition in a Miami hospital today suffering from 'some of the worst injuries staff had ever encountered'.
Yesterday, a cyclist described the terrifying moment he witnessed a naked man tear pieces of flesh from another man's face at the side of a freeway before being shot dead by police when he refused to stop.
Larry Vega, from Miami, was cycling off the MacArthur Causeway on Saturday afternoon when he saw the savage attack, which he described as 'the most gruesome, traumatic thing I have ever seen in my life'.
He told WSVN: 'The guy was like tearing him to pieces with his mouth and I told him to get off. But the guy just kept eating the other guy away, like ripping his skin.
'A police officer came over, told him several times to get off then climbed over the divider and got in front of him and said, "Get off!" But the guy just stood his head up like that with a piece of flesh in his mouth and growled.'

Down: Surveillance footage shows the two naked men lying on the walkway next to a major Miami highway, and since the left body never moves, he is the victim whose face was being chewed by the right man
Mr Vega said Eugene continued to eat his victim's face so he was shot repeatedly. Police have said they believe Eugene was high on a potent form of LSD at the time.
His victim is in hospital recovering from his injuries which are said to be some of the most horrific staff have ever encountered.
Images taken from a Miami Herald surveillance camera show the legs of the two men lying beneath a freeway underpass.
Mr Vega described the crime scene - which he compared to a horror movie: 'It was just a blob of blood. You couldn't really see, it was just blood all over the place.
'It was one of the most gruesome things I have ever seen in my life in person. You know, you see these things in the movies but when you see it in person, it's pretty traumatic.'
Still alive: The attacker moves and sits up even though he had already been shot, and police continue to shoot him until he finally dies on the scene
Hero: A police spokesman called the officer who repeatedly shot the attacker 'a hero'
Armando Aguilar of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police told WSVN: 'What's happening is whenever we see that a person has taken all of his clothes off and has become violent, it’s indicative of this excited delirium that's caused by overdose of drugs.
'What's happening is inside their body their organs are burning up alive.'
A woman notified a police officer nearby that she had seen two men fighting, witnesses told The Miami Herald.
In the barrage of gunfire, the naked man was killed, collapsing face-down on the pedestrian walkwayright by the Herald's parking garage.
Javier Ortiz, a police spokesman, said that based on information he's received, the officer who fired the shots 'is a hero and saved a life'.
Growing concern: Police cars gather as the situation progresses
There were no weapons found near the two naked men, leading them to believe that the attacker used his own strength to subdue his victim.
'There are other ways to injure people,' Sergeant Altarr William told The Herald.
'Some people know martial arts, others are very strong and can kill you with their hands.'
MacArthur Causeway is a major route that connects downtown Miami to popular South Beach.
Traffic clogged the area for hours as people used the route to descend into South Beach for Urban Beach Week, an annual festival dedicated to hip-hop music.

After Foxconn‘s “yes we are; no we’re not” turnaround on the Apple television earlier this month, fresh rumors from China now claim once again that pilot production has begun at the long-time Cupertino partner. “Informed sources” spilled the test production details to the China Business News, or so the Chinese-language site claims, though exactly when that might mature to full production is unclear.
As always, Apple television rumors are notoriously unreliable, as can often be whispering sources inside of production partners. The talk of a full HDTV rather than the existing Apple TV set-top box, however, refuses to die, with analysts queueing up to make predictions of just how near to – or far from – the market it is.
A few weeks back, Foxconn chief executive Terry Gou stoked the rumor fires himself, with suggestions that the company was “making preparations” for the Apple television. That was later denied by the company, which claimed Gou was mis-quoted and that it would never comment publicly on private contracts with those it supplies.
Previous reports have claimed Apple will use the Siri voice control system to streamline operation of the new television, relying on comprehensive vocal commands rather than a button-encrusted remote. Samsung has already implemented voice control in its latest Smart TV range, with mixed results

Monster has unveiled three new headphone models at the Monaco Grand Prix. Monster promises that the three new headphones deliver very high-quality audio along with a stylish design for people looking for headphones that are a fashion accessory. The headphones include the Inspiration, Diamond Tears Edge, and the VEKTR.
The Inspiration is the first set of noise canceling headphones to come from Monster in an over the ear design. Monster says the headphones are for people who travel frequently and will block out external sounds. The headphones have interchangeable headbands that come in different colors, textures, and materials. The next headphone set is called Diamond Tears featuring a clear diamond-style design.
The headphones have soft ear cushions for listening comfort and feature the ControlTalk Universal mic and remote control for smartphones. The final set of headphones is called the VEKTR and was made in conjunction with clothing brand Diesel. The headphones have the Diesel logo on each ear cup. Pricing and availability for the three new headphone models are unknown, but as with anything Monster, they won’t be cheap.

I’m not one to begrudge anybody their tattoos or piercings or miscellaneous body mods, and I rather enjoy ogling the particularly clever and attractive examples. The more culturally relevant the better.
But some folks seem to try too hard.
Popout
For one thing, that’s not an especially secure way to carry around an MP3 player. One snag on your headphone cable and off it pops. One swipe from a crook and you’ll never see it again. At least with a watchband your arm can put up a fight. Plus, the iPod nano just isn’t the convenient little dongle we all thought it would be. Wouldn’t this colorful hipster be better off with something like the new Pebble to mount to his wrist?
Well, maybe not. Like I said, he’s a hipster, and they seem to really rally behind outdated, campy, gimpy technology.
Of course, since such punky brewsters (surely they partake!) are inexorably part of our collective culture, maybe this silly endeavor is more relevant than I initially imagined.
Or maybe not.
Either way, somebody high-five this guy. I want to see what happens.
Even Diego Maradona, a special guest at the Etihad, joined in the celebrations as a goal on the stroke of half-time from skipper Vincent Kompany gave City the vital win in this white-hot derby.
And Alex Ferguson did not like it — not one bit.
The United boss lost his rag with rival Roberto Mancini on the touchline as his team were outfought and outplayed.
Liam Gallagher, lead singer of Oasis, and famous City fan, was so excited he came into the after-match Press conference, took to the podium and proclaimed: “Top of the League, how about that.”
He also embraced Kompany exclaiming “Viva La Belgium” and suggested Fergie must have been on the whisky for getting into a ruck with Mancini.
Now that Mancini’s men are top with only two games to go they have to finish the job and ensure Liam and his fellow supporters have not been a bit premature.
The pressure is on them and Mancini is well aware of it, too — and he still makes United favourites for the title.
City face a tough trip to Newcastle on Sunday with the Toon battling for Champions League qualification.
JOE HART and Vincent Kompany give their reaction after Manchester derby
And they end the season with a home match against old boss Mark Hughes’ QPR who might need a draw or a win to survive in the top flight.
While a first Premier League title is not a forgone conclusion, this was a massive shot in the arm and gave City belief they can close the deal.
They have now done the double over United following on from the astonishing 6-1 win at Old Trafford in October And United know it is no longer in their hands.
MAN UNITED manager hits out at his opposite number over touchline bust-up
The defeat at Wigan, the throwing away of two points at home to Everton and now this loss have cost them dear.
It was not so long ago they had an eight-point lead. United were poor last night and surprisingly flat for a team expected to be fired up by Fergie who had billed this as the mother all of derbies.
He had more passion than his players who did not trouble City keeper Joe Hart all night.
MAN CITY boss on his side's win over rivals United in the Manchester derby
United adopted a cautious approach employing veterans Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes in a five-man midfield which included Ji-Sung Park who is often used to keep it tight in Europe.
It meant Wayne Rooney operated as a lone forward and too often he was left isolated.
Rooney got more and more frustrated as the night went on, waving his arms about, chipping away at ref Andre Marriner but not doing any damage with the ball.
It was not until Danny Welbeck came on as sub for the last 20 minutes that he got any help.
City had David Silva and Samir Nasri supporting Argentine duo Sergio Aguero and the rehabilitated ex-United striker Carlos Tevez and it all linked together nicely.
Tevez went AWOL for four months and was told by Mancini he would never play for the club again. But now he is back in the fold like he has never been away.
United actually looked the more composed early on. But City got their act together and a lovely run and pass from Nasri released Tevez whose low cross was well cleared by Phil Jones.
Aguero then had father-in-law Maradona jumping out of his seat as he lashed a right-foot volley over.
City fans were on Rooney’s back as it all got a bit feisty and the England star was in the middle of most of the mayhem.
The speed of the game was incredible but lacking in quality. And in added time at the end of the first half, City made the breakthrough.
Silva’s corner was arrowed into the six-yard box and Kompany easy lost his marker Chris Smalling before powerfully heading in past David de Gea.
It was fitting Kompany, who has been one of the heartbeats of this City team, should be the scorer.
He represents all that is good about the club and has been so important in pulling everyone together when the likes of Tevez and Mario Balotelli have upset the apple-cart.
United needed a spark from somewhere, but not the sparks coming off Rooney who looked ready to blow a fuse.
After Nasri whipped a shot wide Fergie reacted to the problems by introducing Welbeck.
United switched to a 4-2-3-1 with Rooney dropping back and Welbeck leading the line. And the visitors started stringing some good moves together.
When it came to the vital final ball, though, it all fell apart — epitomised by a Jones cross which flew across the penalty area and out for a throw-in.
There were signs, though, that they could get back into it and Mancini was getting worried.
He brought on the combative Nigel de Jong for Tevez while pushing Yaya Toure further forward.
The Tevez of earlier in the season might not have been so amenable to the decision. But he shook Mancini’s hand, clapped the supporters and took his place on the bench.
Mancini’s Italian pragmatism was coming into play, holding on to what he had rather than going for a second and wrapping it up. But Toure did have a go from 20 yards with his shot whistling past the right post.
De Jong’s foul on Welbeck, which earned the Dutchman a booking, led to a touchline row between Fergie and Mancini with the United boss clearly upset by the challenge.
Mancini did not back down though and had to be dragged away by assistant David Platt.
Michael Carrick then clattered into Gareth Barry and was also booked as the tension increased.
Toure went close again with another 20-yarder, but Mancini got even more cautious bringing on Micah Richards for Silva.
By contrast United now had wingers Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young on the pitch. Yet for all the attacking power they did not hurt the opposition It’s all yours City, isn’t it?
